Two important components in recognizing the status of the political system and the state in Islamic societies include the concept of modernity and its legal-political structure, meaning on one hand the modern state, and on the other, the legal-political structures derived from Islamic thought. The detection and identification of patterns and the interaction of these two components in the construction of the political system and state in contemporary Islamic countries are the central issues of this paper. Assuming the principle of the integrity of social and political aspects of Islam and the influence of the requirements of the modern state, and through historical and theoretical analysis, the patterns within which Islamic societies have reacted to these two factors can be identified in the form of Fundamentalist (West-oriented-Salafi) and Modified-oriented approaches. A full understanding of these patterns provides the capacity and preparation needed to achieve the Islamic desired state proportionate to living conditions in the modern transitional periods. This paper is an attempt toward the detection, proof, and analysis of this hypothesis.
